VIDEO: Young, American and Arab

Originally Published at Think.MTV.com

Since 9-11 anti-Arab and anti-Muslim discrimination is on the rise. In an act that was contrary to his message of change, campaign volunteers for Barack Obama refused to allow two Muslim American women to sit behind the candidate during a June rally at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena.

Michigan is home to the largest population of Arabs outside the Middle East. Several young Arab Americans spoke with Nadir about this incident and the tensions they endure every day.

I learned nothing about Arabs facing descrimination in the US, except that Obama boosters forced some Muslim women to move off-camera. I learned nothing to indicate that Arabs are facing any special hardships here. I learned that they seem to be happy and prosperous, and that one of our sad cultures of ignorance is making headways among Arab-American young males.

What makes you think that is what you were supposed to learn from this piece? You're argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.

Because the text intro:

1. Led with: "Since 9-11 anti-Arab and anti-Muslim discrimination is on the rise."

2. And ended with: "Several young Arab Americans spoke with Nadir about this incident [Obama staff expelling muslims] and the tensions they endure every day."

I found nothing of substance about "anti-muslim discrimination", much less it being "on the rise", from the interviewees. I found from them vague claims about how they interpret unspecified interactions with native Americans.
